Accuracy- Speed's Important partner...

Another from officer.com , I love that website!

Bill Jordan- "Speed's fine. Accuracy's final."

So what have we learned so far? Move, shoot fast BUT accurate............

1970 - US Army Military Science: "Only hits count".

1977 - Northern Virginia Police Academy Basic Law Enforcement Course:
"No felon has ever been subdued by a sudden loud noise!".

2003 - Thunder Ranch Texas Defensive Handgun I: "There is a lawyer tied to each bullet."

2009 - Local CCW course: "You will pay full retail for each round fired in a dynamic critical event."

In IDPA we do not pay enough attention to either misses or the proper balance between speed and accuracy! Our IPSC (NASCAR - go fast, turn left) forebearers were originally committed to Speed Power and Accuracy balanced on a three legged stool in one zen-like and harmonious relationship. That was before the equipment race.

First, after learning that there are no magic bullets, handguns are not as powerful as we think and that stopping power is more theoretical than practical, I think we have come to accept that a good hit with a 38 SPL is more effective than a marginal hit with a 45 ACP. We all have sort of realized (and it hurts me to say this) that we need to use "just enough gun". The gun that we can control best and not the largest we can get.

Next, Speed must be balanced properly with our ability to recognize a threat and to counter that threat. The whole world is not a nail because we carry a hammer. Some of us shoot faster than we can think. Plus, speed needs that balance with accuracy. It is ok to take longer when you are behind cover to shoot at a more distant target.

Finally, accuracy also needs to be balanced with speed. It is more important at bad breath distances to put "steel on target" than to be -0. But the greater the distance, the more precise the shot has to be.

These are my few thoughts and I am sticking to them!
